Blair County Cancels Jury Trials for Remainder of 2020

Series: Coronavirus | Story 207

President Judge Elizabeth A. Doyle announced Friday, Nov. 13, that due to the recent rapid increase in COVID-19 cases, Blair County jury trials are canceled for the remainder of 2020.

Specifically, the following events are canceled: jury selections scheduled for Nov. 20, 23, 24 and 25.

Judge Doyle said that for the safety and security of the jurors, victims, defendants, witnesses, attorneys, court and courthouse staff and the public, the court would not be convening large public events through the end of the year. This includes cancelling the attendance of participants, with the exception of counsel, for the Trial List Review and Call of the List events. Other court matters will continue to be primarily heard by remote advanced technology and conference call.

The Board of Commissioners supports the court’s action.

“The commissioners are taking every step possible to ensure the safety of our employees and the public, Commissioner Bruce Erb said.”
