Blair County Prison Reports COVID-19 Case

Series: Coronavirus | Story 215

On Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2020, the Blair County Prison Board was made aware of the first inmate at the Blair County Prison testing positive for COVID-19.

As of noon on Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2020, there are currently 14 COVID-19-positive inmates.

The recreation area (gym) inside the prison has been equipped to house the COVID-19-positive male inmates. Another smaller dorm area is being cleared as a back up housing unit for separation of healthy and symptomatic inmates.

Preventative measures to stop or mitigate the spread of COVID-19 include minimizing the movement inside the building, additional cleaning measures, eliminating outside agencies or visitors from entering the building.

Blair County is following all Pennsylvania Department of Corrections (PADOC), Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Pennsylvania Department of Health (PADOH) guidelines to minimize the risk to the healthy inmates and the county correctional officers caring for the inmate population.

Blair County inmates are under the care of PrimeCare Medical. PrimeCare has implemented procedures and protocols to monitor the health of the inmates, including regular temperature checks and continued monitoring for symptoms.

Blair County cannot share further details due to the need to protect confidentiality and to comply with HIPAA requirements.
