JOHN O. BROOKS

East Freedom

John O. Brooks, 78. of East Freedom, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday morning, Nov. 26, 2020, at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center, Johnstown, after a brief illness.

He was born Jan. 5, 1942, in Philipsburg, the son of the late Charles and Alice (Baumgardner) Brooks. He married Judy A. Snyder on Oct. 27, 1962. She preceded him in death March 15, 2016.

He is survived by four children: John Scott Brooks and wife Chris of Colorado Springs, Colo., Fred A. Brooks and wife Lori of Roaring Spring, Jamie Brooks and significant other Emily Morningstar of East Freedom and Jennifer Claar and husband Stephen of Roaring Spring; six grandchildren: John, Brittany, Dustin, Ashley, Brooke and Emma; and three great-grandchildren: Rylie, Mason and Avalyn.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister: Leslie Brooks, Nancy Nead and Calvin Brooks.

John was a member of Hillside Community Church, Bellwood.

He was a 1960 graduate of the Masonic Homes Patton School in Lancaster.

He served in the United States Coast Guard and Coast Guard Reserves from 1960 to 1968.

He retired from New Enterprise Stone & Lime Co. Inc. in 2005 after 24 years of service.

John enjoyed hunting, fishing, and he especially loved spending time with his family.

At the request of the deceased, viewing and funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in John’s memory may be given to the Community Hillside Church, 508 Cambria St., Bellwood, PA 16617.
