Roaring Spring Man Jailed for Assault Nov. 30

An altercation at the Roaring Spring Commons apartment complex has landed a Roaring Spring man behind bars on multiple assault-related charges.

According to the criminal complaint, on Nov. 30, Roaring Spring police were called to the parking lot of Roaring Spring Commons to investigate a report that a male, identified as Duane E. Morgan, 40, had pulled a knife on some people and was threatening their lives.

When police arrived, they located Morgan at the apartment he was staying at. When police detained Morgan, he allegedly told them, "I know I'm in trouble."

Police searched Morgan and allegedly found a small knife in his pocket.

According to police, a Facebook argument between two women that spilled over to the apartment complex prompted the altercation in which Morgan allegedly pulled the knife.

Police said the victim told them she and another woman were in a fight on Facebook and that she went over to the woman's apartment to speak about it.

The woman told police that the conversation got loud, and Morgan came from his apartment and began to push her. The victim told police that she returned to her apartment, but Morgan followed her and struck her in the face.

The victim told police that she then went to her car to retrieve groceries and Morgan followed her. Morgan and the victim began to argue when Morgan allegedly pulled the knife out and threatened to kill her.

Police said Morgan alleged that he went over to the victim's apartment to break up the fight and that the victim pulled out a baseball bat with nails in it and threatened to hit him.

Police said they found no bat and that eyewitnesses corroborated the victim's story.

Morgan faces misdemeanor charges of terroristic threats, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person.

He was arraigned by Altoona Magisterial District Judge Matthew Dunio and placed in the Blair County prison on $20,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for today, Dec. 10, in front of Martinsburg Magisterial District Judge Andrew Blattenberger.
