Alpha Beta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society held its annual Christmas Tea on Dec. 5 at Slick's Ivy Stone Restaurant in Osterburg.
Members of the Hospitality Committee served finger foods and cookies at the conclusion of the business meeting led by President Becky Johnen. She led the group in a discussion about increasing the chapter's use of social media.
Lois Stoner, Ways and Means Committee chair, reported that the Pizza Hut fundraiser earned $159 toward chapter projects. The committee also held a raffle during the meeting that raised $469.
Melissa Flynn, Membership chair, recognized milestones in membership by presenting Angie Gates with a five-year certificate and Patricia Harrison and Royce Boyd with 25-year certificates.
Linda Clapper, Projects chair, reported that the fleece blanket project will be expanded to include The Village at Morrisons Cove in Martinsburg. To date, 16 fleece blankets have been donated to Your Safe Haven and 24 have gone to Bedford County Children and Youth, to whom the chapter will be donating socks needed by the children through their project Operation Toasty Tootsies. In its ongoing support of the Jubilani School in Africa, Alpha Beta donated another $386, allowing its donations this fall to feed the students there for at least 10 months.
Linda McIntyre reported that eight women have requested applications for the Grant-in-Aid Scholarship that will be awarded to an education student at the next meeting.
Finally, the members enjoyed a program presented by Patty Valentine and Judy Conrad who demonstrated making a paper candy cane and distributed materials on the origin and meaning of the candy cane as a symbol of the Christmas season.
The next meeting is scheduled for March 25, 2021, at Slick's Ivy Stone in Osterburg.
