Village Delivers Presents to Residents

In October, Mike Lightner, activites direstor at The Village at Morrisons Cove in Martinsburg, and Chaplain Beth Pyles sent letters to groups and churches. In this letter they provided visitation and the continued restricted visiting policy due to COVID-19 and thanked them for all they have done for their residents.

At that time churches were invited to participate in collecting various items needed for a Christmas bag for each resident. More than 40 letters were sent out, and the result was "phenomenal," Pyles said. An outpouring of items from ecumenical churches, ministries and organizations were sent to The Village.

Each group chose what they wanted to collect and what they could give and there was an abundance of items for the residents. COVID-19 has had a different effect on the local area but people went over and above what was expected.

Large gift bags were created filled with items such as blankets, tissues, devotionals, shampoo, socks, slippers, stuffed animals, word searches or word finds. There were enough items to fill more than 100 gift bags for the residents, but there were more than enough items left for other holiday celebrations in the future.

"The Village cannot thank every church, ministry and organization enough that took time to collect and deliver the Christmas items," Pyles said. "The love and care that has been shown to the residents has been absolutely amazing."

Hamilton Wright Mabie: "Blessed is the season which engages the whole world in a conspiracy of love."
