Donald E. Brumbaugh, 88, of Salix, Pa., a brief resident at Maple Winds Care and Rehabilitation Center, Portage, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2020, at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center, Johnstown, after many medical complications (not due to COVID-19).

He was born Feb. 6, 1932, in Roaring Spring, son of the late Raymond S. and C. Alberta (Benner) Brumbaugh.

He married E. Denise Gonsman Oct.15, 1955, in Winchester, Va. She preceded him in death Feb. 12, 2009, after 53 years of marriage.

He is survived by his two beloved daughters: Debra L. Williams (husband, Scott A.) of Monroeville and C. Diane Sterle (husband, Thomas E.) of Salix; three grandchildren: Tasha A. (Williams) Capalongo (husband, Matt), Sarah L. Sterle (boyfriend, Jacob M. Jones) and Tyler A. Williams; five great-grandchildren: Cameron, Cassidy, Christianna and Charlotte Capalongo and Brooklyn Williams; also surviving are many cousins, brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family members and many dear friends.

He was preceded in death by an infant granddaughter, Mary Kate Sterle; and in-laws, Gerald and Mary Gonsman.

Don grew up in Martinsburg and was a 1950 graduate of Morrison Cove High School, where he was a member of the FFA. He was an U.S. Army veteran, serving from 1955 until 1957, with a tour of duty in Japan, attaining the rank of Specialist 3rd Class.

He grew up farming and was later employed at Burchfield's Farm Equipment in the appliance sales and service department; Westinghouse Corp., as the sales and service manager; Cambria Equipment Co., working as the parts and sales manager; and Feather Trailer Sales, where Don sold motorhomes and travel trailers. His final place of employment was Wise Trailer Sales, selling motorhomes and travel trailers, from 1994 until February 2020.

Over the years Don was very active in the various communities where he resided, serving as a volunteer fire fighter and past president of the Martinsburg Volunteer Fire Department. He was also a member of the Salix Sportsmen's Community Club for several years and the Adams Water Authority from 1971 until 2013.

Don and his family were avid campers. He belonged to many clubs and associations, including: NCHA/FCRV and the Winnebago Camping Club, where he held office positions in these clubs and state associations. Don also served as chairman and co-chairman for many campouts and parades, meeting a lot of great people who have become lifelong friends.

He was a very caring and loving man who cherished spending time with family and friends, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Don also enjoyed traveling, watching football and going out to eat.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a private funeral service will be held at John K. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Martinsburg. Pastor Millie Baker and Pastor Cheryl Gonsman, niece of Donald, will officiate.

Interment will follow at Brumbaugh Cemetery, rural Martinsburg.
