Putting cows on the front page since 1885.
Sometimes I get into a sentimental, nostalgic mood and I think of Williamsburg and what it was like well before my time.
I hear so many memories of the Williamsburg of yesteryear and the pictures remind me that our town has an interesting past and a bright future.
This week’s question is: What was your favorite place to eat growing up?
Here is what a few residents had to say:
Suzanne Gorsuch: Louie’s Coral Lounge
Della Helsley: The Sizzler
Lori Brubaker: My grandmother’s kitchen
Larry Rice: Annie’s restaurant on First Street
Connie Longenecker: Peggy’s Diner
Wendy Martin: Louie’s Coral Lounge
Bethany Stokes: Shoneys and Hoss’s
Jim Parks: My mother’s
Marianne Nicholas: Pete and Piggy’s for sure! Dad took us there most Sundays. The waitress even knew what we would order – the kindest people. Mr. Piggy would tell us stories as we waited for our food!
Renee Douglas: Chilcote’s
Thomas Lear: Home
Anna Gibboney: Louie’s – the homemade spaghetti and a Mickey Mouse drink.
Barb Dulaney: The Diamond restaurant in Mercer where I grew up. Yummy mashed potatoes and gravy along with memories with my brother. It was our treat to ourselves (just him and myself) on allowance day.
Janet Kipe: Home with family around the table.
Sheryl Hart: We didn’t go out much. But I do remember going with my grandparents to Howard Johnson. Best hamburgers ever.
Travis McCall: Country Kitchen in Canoe Creek or the Dugout in Williamsburg
Kevin Wise: Ponderosa – only because my dad wouldn’t eat anywhere else.
Don Zimmerman: Gildea’s in Williamsburg
