Greenfield Township Board of Supervisors discussed the possibility of installing a fence around the basketball court at the Claysburg Area Community Park during their Feb. 2 meeting.
Basketballs sometimes bounce away from the court and end up on a nearby roadway, creating a safety issue. Installing fencing of up to 10 feet high could resolve the concern. The township will explore applying for a grant to fund the project, which could also include new signage and restriping the court. Antis Township recently completed a similar project, according to Arlene Kuntz, township secretary-treasurer.
The addition of a new water source to the Greenfield Township Municipal Authority’s system could be moving closer to reality, reported Eric Casanave, township engineer from Stiffler, McGraw & Associates. Permission to withdraw groundwater from a well in the Marasco Business Park is scheduled for review by the Susquehanna River Basin Commission at its March meeting. If all remaining permits from issuing agencies are approved, “a 400-square-foot water treatment plant and pump-house” would be constructed, with water pumped to a nearby storage tank, according to the project’s application summary. The water would then be distributed into the system to customers. Construction could begin as early as 2022, if progress continues to be made, Casanave said.
The engineer has begun to review plans from the Claysburg-Kimmel School District for upgrades to the school’s athletic fields, which includes replacement of the bleachers at the football field.
Also, at the meeting, supervisors approved a quote to upgrade the phone system at the township offices and a purchase order for police ammunition. Board members also discussed upgrading a computer server.
