NB Girls Earn Second Win

February 25, 2021

Northern Bedford’s girls Basketball team improved to 2-7 with a come-from-behind 37-34 win over Southern Fulton on Feb. 17.

NB trailed 14-8 after one period before forging a 22-all tie at the half.

The Panthers celebrated senior night by outscoring the visiting Indians 8-5 in the pivotal fourth period to come out on top of what was a back and forth second half.

“We started slow but finished strong and I was very pleased with our play down the stretch,” NB coach Jon Ewart said.

Junior Ashley Kichman's 14 points fronted the Panthers.

“These girls have worked very hard and it's exciting to see them get a close win, especially on senior night,” Ewart said.

Seniors Olivia Higgins and Makayla Kochara were honored prior to the game.

• Tussey Mountain 45, NB 37: Northern Bedford pushed ICC South co-leader Tussey Mountain to the limit before falling to the Titans by a 45-37 final score Feb. 19.

The Panthers trailed from the outset but after a strong TM start in which they led 15-4 after one quarter, the Panthers surged behind a shutout defensive effort in the second frame to close the gap to 15-12 at the half.

“We got right back in it in the second quarter but the first couple minutes of the third is what cost us the game,” NB Coach Jon Ewart said.

The Titans quickly doubled up the Panthers, 24-12, in the first few minutes of the second half before NB again mounted a comeback and twice got to within five points but could never get closer.

“The game was in doubt up until the final minute so I am pleased with our improvement and competitiveness,” Ewart said.

Junior Makayla Hall had 15 points and junior Ashley Kichman added 12 for NB.

The Lady Panthers are now 2-8.
