Homewood at Martinsburg

Mary M. Corle, 93, a resident of Homewood at Martinsburg, formerly of Clover Creek, rural Martinsburg, passed away late Monday, Feb. 22, 2021, at the home.

She was born May 18, 1927, in Hollidaysburg, daughter of the late George Joseph and Violet Mae (Baughman) Eger.

She married Joseph E. Corle, Sept. 25, 1948, in Martinsburg. He preceded her in death June 4, 2007, after 59 years of marriage.

She is survived by five children: Garry Corle, Evelyn Cowan and Paula Buell (Eddie), all of rural Martinsburg, Beryl Croft (Kirby) of West Newton and Martha “Marty” Hazenstab (Tim) of Duncansville; a daughter-in-law, Connie Corle-Stiffler of James Creek; 12 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two brothers: James Eger of Roaring Spring and Francis Eger of Duncansville; and two sisters: Louise Priester and Patricia Ray both in Florida.

Mary was preceded in death by a son, George Corle; two granddaughters: Charley Jo Corle and Georganne Wicker; a sister, Rose Gorman; and six brothers: Joseph, Charles, Harold, Paul, Herbert and Julius Eger.

She was a 1945 graduate of Hollidaysburg High School. Mary was a loving wife, mom, gram and homemaker. She and her husband, Joe proudly raised their children on their dairy farm along Clover Creek in rural Martinsburg.

Mary enjoyed gardening, canning and doing crossword puzzles.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions a private graveside service will be held at Alto-Reste Park Cemetery, Altoona.
