Williamsburg Has A New Wrestling Star at 65 Pounds

Series: Williamsburg | Story 132

When one thinks of Williamsburg sports, one typically thinks of basketball.

However, a certain youngster is proving that Williamsburg's up and coming sport may be wrestling. Haiden Jones recently dominated the 8u bracket at the Pennsylvania Novice State Championships in Carlisle. Jones won by decision, 5-2.

Jones is the son of Brad and Christey Jones of Williamsburg. Jones began wrestling in December 2019 after a friend of his invited him to attend a tournament in Ocean City, Md.

"All it took was watching one tournament, and he was hooked," Haiden's mother, Christey, said.

In his first season, Jones took many losses and had a few wins, but, Christey said, "he kept pushing himself to be better and continued practicing and attending tournaments even after the season ended."

For Jones, wrestling isn't just a sport he participates in during the season, it has become his way of life and his greatest passion.
