'Helping Appvion Employees' Event Set For Saturday; More Families Can Be Served

The Helping Appvion Employees fundraiser event is encouraging Appvion employees and families to take advantage of the help it is offering.

The organization has been collecting food and donations to assist Appvion Spring Mill employees who will lose their jobs because of the plant’s shut-down in April.

“So far we have had an overwhelming response from the community, but only about 11 families have signed up,” said Tammy Frye-Carter, organizer.

“We have Easter baskets, a ton of food, and gift cards,” Frye-Carter said. “So we are hoping to get the word out to any employees who might need some extra help that we have a lot to give.”

Those interested should contact Melissa at (814) 502-0985, or stop by the Albright Church Fellowship Hall at 1245 Bloomfield Road, Roaring Spring, to make a reservation.

The distribution event is scheduled for Saturday, April 3, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Frye-Carter said that if Appvion Spring Mill employee families do not sign up in advance for the Saturday event, the organization may not have the gift cards or Easter baskets for them, but will have food.

The gift cards are designated to go to the employees, Frye-Carter said, “But we’ve got so many donations that we are able to help anyone in need,” she said.

Frye-Carter said that the group will first provide donations to Appvion Spring Mill employees from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. After that, the public is invited to come and take “whatever they can use from 2 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 3,” she said.
