James Bassler Returns Home

Herald of May 23, 1946

James Weldon Bassler, Yeoman Third Class of the Navy, returned to the home of his parents, Mr. And Mrs. J. Harold Bassler, near Martinsburg, after a year in the Philippines.

The primary election in Morrisons Cove was notable only in the general apathy of voters and the light vote cast. The Cove’s only candidate, D. Raymond Sollenberger, candidate for the Republican nomination for state assemblyman, won with a lead of almost 1,000 votes over his nearest opponent.

John H. Hess, supervising principal of Morrisons Cove High School and the schools of North Woodbury, Taylor and Huston townships, was offered a very attractive position in Ligonier township, Westmoreland County. His decision was to be announced at the next joint board meeting.

Mr. And Mrs. William Forshey of Hickory Bottom observed their golden wedding anniversary May 19 with a family dinner at their home attended by 22 members of the family.
