Community Says Goodbye to a First Responder

The hearse carrying the remains of Jeffrey A. Lafferty passes underneath an American flag arch set up by local volunteer fire companies.

A ceremony was held for Jeff Lafferty on Saturday, May 22, at Alto-Reste Park, Altoona. Lafferty, of Martinsburg, died May 14 at the age of 57 at UPMC Shadyside Hospital, Pittsburgh, from complications after surgery.

Lafferty served as fire police captain and trustee of the Friendship Volunteer Fire Company in Roaring Spring, vice president of the Firemen's Relief Association, and was president of the Martinsburg Volunteer Fire Company.

The officiating clergy were the Rev. Jerry McCuller, Jr., and Dr. Dave Crumrine. Arrangements were by the Todd T. Thompson Funeral Home.
