Claysburg American Legion to Honor, Salute Veterans on Memorial Day

The Claysburg American Legion will conduct memorial services at the seven cemeteries on Sunday, May 30, 2021. This will be the organization’s 87th Annual Memorial Day Program.

Services will be held at the following cemeteries:

• Sproul at 1:15 p.m.

• King at 1:35 p.m.

• Imler at 2:05 p.m.

• Greenfield at 2:25 p.m.

• Lower Klahr at 2:50 p.m.

• Upper Klahr at 3:10 p.m.

• Mt. Hope at 3:45 p.m.

In case of inclement weather on Monday, the services will be held in the Christ Lutheran Church.

The program will include music from Claysburg American Legion Band, under the direction of Dan Crist; an invocation from Claysburg Legion Chaplain Ray Glass; readings from Claysburg Legion Ladies Aultiliary Representative Diana G. Walter-Dively, Claysburg V.FW. Representative Colonel Vincent L. Dodson, and Claysburg Legion Commander Gail Musselman; and a salute to departed comrades by honor guard.

There will be a ceremony Monday, May 31 at 10 a.m. at Union Cemetery. Diana G. Walter-Dively will be the presenter of ceremony.

This ceremony will include music from Claysburg American Legion Band, under the direction of Dan Crist; Claysburg Community chorus, under the direction of Tom Ringler; and vocalist Jackie Couch.

There will be readings from Claysburg Legion Ladies Aultiliary Representative Diana G. Walter-Dively, Claysburg V.FW. Representative Colonel Vincent L. Dodson, Claysburg Legion Commander Gail Musselman, and Sons of the American Legion Representative Dave Gamer.

The Memorial Address guest speaker will be Pastor David Maxwell of Upper Klahr Church of the Brethren, Claysburg.

An honor guard will perform a salute to departed comrades.
