'Slingers' Comes to Lower Trail Creamery

The people of Williamsburg were treated to more than just ice cream Memorial Day weekend.

Reggie and Leslie Lower, owners of Lower Trail Creamery, arranged for Slingers Throw House to come May 29. Customers could come for ice cream and throw axes.

Slingers Throw House is an axe-throwing entertainment house located in Altoona. The business started last June.

"We brought our workers there at Thanksgiving break," said Reggie. "We got around to talking and made plans for them to come this summer."

Brian Lucas, owner of Slingers, said the appeal of axe throwing came from being able to hit the target.

"The temptation and excitement from being able to hit the bullseye is a prize itself," he said.

Though they built the targets on site in the past, this year, Slingers has introduced a mobile throwing lane that makes traveling to events simpler.

"It's tough, but rewarding," said Delaney Igoe, one of Slingers' employees.

Along with Crystall Miller, Igoe has been working there since the beginning.

The Lowers offered free ice cream to anyone who could make three bulls-eyes in a row.

"It's fun for the whole family," said Lucas. "Anyone aged 12 and up can come and throw axes."

The next event to take place at Lower Trail Creamery is a barbecue, featuring items including pulled pork, ribs and brisket.

Reggie said a previous event was "a big hit" with customers. It will begin at 11 a.m. and continue until sold out.

A barbecue is planned for every three to four weeks. A calendar is posted outside of the trailer.

Slingers Throw House is located at 2324 North Branch Ave. in Altoona.
