Win over Forest Hills Gives Team 19-2 Record
The Central varsity baseball team continued its stellar season on May 26 with a 12-1 victory over Forest Hills (Sidman).
According to the high school sports website maxpreps.com and local reports, the win over Forest Hills put the Dragons in first place in the Mountain Division with a winning percentage of 91 and a league record of 12-2, 19-2 overall.
Maxpreps Baseball named Jonah Snowberger (1B, LHP) as the Player of the Game.
The Central Dragons bring a 6-game winning streak to the planned next round of the District VI Baseball tournament. (That game will take place after the Herald's deadline for this June 3 edition.)
That round will have the Dragons facing the Tyrone Golden Eagles (18-3) at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 2. Central fans were planning a big send-off of the Central baseball team on Wednesday, June 2, as the team headed to PNG Field for the District VI Championship game.
Fans were asked to bring signs, balloons and noisemakers and "line the route" at Central High School to cheer the team on. The team bus's planned route was on Woodbury Pike, past Roots in the Cove (7399 Woodbury Pike), past Dragons Den Pizza (7390 Woodbury Pike), and then through McKee.
In the first round of the tournament, Central beat Bellwood Antis 15-0 in four innings.
Claysburg-Kimmel lost to Marion Center 5-6 in the first round.
