Alpha Beta Hosts Sister Chapter

On May 22, 2021, at the Ivy Stone Restaurant in Osterburg, Alpha Beta Chapter hosted Alpha Delta Chapter for their biennial joint meeting. Both groups celebrated their 73rd birthdays as chapters in the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, an organization of key women educators working toward improved professional development and recognition of outstanding teachers.

In an ongoing effort to highlight those women teachers in our local schools, three educators were honored at the meeting: Kathy Miller, retired art teacher at Northern Bedford County School District; Maria Mannion, third grade teacher at Central Elementary in the Chestnut Ridge School District; and Nikki Gephart, math teacher and After-school Program Coordinator for the Tussey Mountain School District.

Alpha Beta’s continued emphasis on serving needs in the local and global community was highlighted through the collection of personal care items for individuals benefiting from assistance by the Bedford County Children and Youth Services. They also donated $299 for the Jubilani School in Africa.

The program for the day was a conversation with Christy Shields, meteorologist at WTAJ TV in Altoona. Sharing via Zoom, Ms. Shields highlighted the importance of science and STEM in schools and discussed how those subjects related to her career.

The next meeting of Alpha Beta Chapter will be held at Denny’s Restaurant in Bedford on June 22.
