Frederick's Meat Market in RS Expanding Its Store

Owner Hoping to Finish Renovations By the Holiday Season

Those driving past Frederick's Meat Market in Roaring Spring on Friday, June 4, may have been concerned that the shop was being torn down. Luckily, that is not the case.

The house beside the meat market was demolished by Haven Ridge Excavating to allow the market to expand into a 50 by 60 foot store. The garage beside Frederick's will be torn down as well.

Mitch Frederick bought Frederick's Meat Market around 27 years ago with his father. After renovations are finished, Mitch's oldest son Mitchell will take over the business. Mitchell has an MBA and has been working with his father at the meat market for about two years.

"For the past seven or eight years, we've been thinking we needed to make the store bigger," Mitch said.

Much of the merchandise the store has to offer has be kept in the back because there isn't enough room to display anything.

During the pandemic, only one person could be inside. Employees had to wait on customers in the parking lot.

"More space will mean more comfort for customers," Mitch said.

This expansion will also allow for more parking and better handicapped access.

The house that was torn down used to be a duplex apartment. It took Haven Ridge three hours to crush the structure into the basement.

Pride Builders, the contractor who will build an addition that will connect to the old building, is hoping to take three months for the job, but Mitch said he hopes the work is done in time for the holidays.

"It's important that customers know we will be staying open the whole way through," Mitch said.

After renovations, the business is hoping to hire at least 10 new employees – five full time and five part time.

"The community has been good to me," Mitch said. "It's all about serving customers and the community better."
