Magazine Honors Blacksmith

Herald of July 8, 1921

George Gorsuch, famous for his miniature horseshoes, added to his world-wide reputation with a full-page article and picture in the American Magazine. Written by Cornelius Vanderbilt Jr., it was a personal tribute to the blacksmith, his skill and list for famous notables the world over. A copy of the article was forwarded from a former Williamsburger, Harry Fulton Ake, secretary-treasurer of the Hardwood Co. of Chicago.

Starting July 13, stores and business places in Roaring Spring were giving their employees summer vacation time by closing at noon each Wednesday during July and August.

A band of Gypsies, or “horse jockies,” were staying in the Henrietta picnic woods, trading horses and mules with local fellows from their fine horse stock.

Committees from each section of the Cove chose to meet on Aug. 4 to report on progress made toward purchasing a grove, suitably located, to be dedicated as a perpetual monument to local soldiers.
