Borough Receives Grant

Martinsburg Borough Council received an additional grant of $13,100 from the federal government toward its 1968 sewage treatment plant project.

A new policy adopted by the Pennsylvania Game Commission knocked out the threat of camping on State Game Lands, a development which Cove sportsmen had battled against for several years.

Charles E. Nicewonger, secretary of the Roaring Spring Friendship Fire Co. for 35 years was given a fireman’s funeral. He was carried on a company fire truck from Thompson Funeral Home to Greenlawn Cemetery.

A former Martinsburg girl, Mrs. Anita Mayer, was one of five stewardesses on a Braniff Airlines flight hijacked over Mexico in a flight from Acapulco.

Elliot Spearin, son of Mr. And Mrs. Walter E. Spearin of Roaring Spring, was named to Phi Kappa Phi, a national scholastic honor society. He was a graduate student at Penn State University.
