Catharina 'Tine' J. Van Dop

Homewood of Martinsburg

Catharina J. "Tine" Van Dop passed away Saturday, July 10, 2021, at Homewood of Martinsburg.

Tine was born in Delft, The Netherlands.

She is survived by her sons, Jacobus (Linda) and Robert; and a daughter, Tineke (Jack); as well as four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Abraham, in March 1987; and her son, Cornelis, in May, 2009.

Tine attained her bachelor's and master's degrees in education and taught in Delft following World War II. In February, 1957, Abraham, Tine and their four children immigrated from The Netherlands to the Martinsburg area. In 1960, the family opened Van Dop's Greenhouse and Nursery on Auction Road at the same time Tine pursued, part time, her bachelor's degree in education, graduating in 1967 from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. During the next seventeen years, she taught in several Spring Cove School District elementary schools and had a passion for her students and teaching.

She was a member of the Martinsburg Outlook Club and a long-time member of St John's United Church of Christ, Martinsburg.

In retirement, Tine enjoyed gardening and traveled extensively until the last eight years, visiting numerous countries located on five continents. She loved both her birth country, the Netherlands, and her adoptive country, the United States, very much and was so proud to be a Dutch American.

The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the Homewood staff for providing exceptional, compassionate care.

A funeral was held Wednesday, July 14, 2021, in St. John's United Church of Christ. Pastor Betty Royer and the Rev. Gerald McCuller officiated. Private interment was held at Fairview Cemetery, Martinsburg. There will be no public viewing.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601, or to St. John's United Church of Christ, 117 E. Julian Street, Martinsburg, PA 16662.
