Northern Bedford traveled to Bellwood Friday night and were dominated by the unbeaten Blue Devils to the tune of 27-0.
The Panthers, playing with heavy hearts after learning of Assistant Coach Rob Reed's passing earlier in the week due to complications from Covid-19, held B-A scoreless in the first period.
However, on the first play of the second quarter, Bellwood's Alex Kovac picked a fumble out of midair and rambled 8 yards to paydirt for a defensive score. The Blue Devils followed that up with a drive on their next possession to take a 14-0 halftime lead.
Bellwood out-gained NB 198-59 in total yardage and continued their domination with two third quarter scores to set the final.
"Our offense has been struggling and we were playing a top ten team in the state in Bellwood," said Coach Garry Black. "We will keep plugging away and improving. We'll be fine."
Both squads paid tribute to NB's Coach Reed, the Panthers took a knee on the first play of the game while wearing red skull caps and Bellwood team captains led both teams in a tribute and prayer at midfield immediately following the game.
NB is now 1-2 while Bellwood is 3-0. The Panthers host Windber on Friday night at Panther Community Stadium.
