WOSA Offers Forestry Scholarship, Application Deadline Oct. 25

Codi Clapper (left) of Bedford and Xavier Maslowski (right) of Everett were the WOSA Scholarship winners in 2020, each receiving a $800 check toward their forestry degrees.

This year WOSA is offering just one $1,000 scholarship.

The Woodland Owners of the Southern Alleghenies (WOSA) is pleased to offer the Ben & Carole Tresselt Scholarship to Bedford and Fulton county high school seniors or college students majoring in the field of Forest Resources or Forestry. Students can apply for a $1,000 scholarship awarded by the Woodland Owners of the Southern Alleghenies.

Established in 1996, WOSA's focus has been to educate its members and the public in Bedford and Fulton counties on the value and methods of stewardship practices on private woodlands to ensure the sustainability of Pennsylvania's forests, 70 percent of which are privately owned.

"We are pleased that we have been able to provide a scholarship to several students over the past few years," said WOSA President Mike Jackson.

The scholarship honors Ben and Carole Tresselt, who were dedicated WOSA members for many years until their passing. Ben was also a highly respected arborist whose passion for healthy trees was evident to all who knew him.

The scholarship will be awarded based on academic merit, quality of the written essay, and career goals consistent with forest stewardship.

The application is on the WOSA website: http://www.theWOSA.org. Click on "Awards" Tab and scroll down.

The deadline to submit applications is Monday, Oct. 25, 2021. Applicants will be notified by mail in early November. Applications should be mailed to WOSA P. O. Box 253 Everett, PA 15537. For more information, call (814) 652-9268.
