Blair Co. Municipalities Easily Pass Second Amendment Sanctuary Referendum

The referendum to make Blair County a second amendment sanctuary overwhelmingly passed county-wide with an unofficial tally of 17,846 voting in favor to just 7,149 no votes.

The referendum, which makes it illegal for the government to confiscate legally owned firearms, was voted on two levels as voters were asked to cast a yes or no vote on the county level as well as their respective municipality.

None of the county’s 24 municipalities voted down the referendum, passing it individually by a wide margin in each area.

Freedom Township led the way for Cove area municipalities with 603 yes votes to 127 no. North Woodbury Township voters easily passed the referendum with 542 yes voted to 143 no.

Greenfield Township voted 483 in favor to just 86 against while Roaring Spring Borough passed the referendum by a tally of 402 to 123.

Williamsburg Borough voters cast 249 votes for, and 90 votes against, while Martinsburg came in at 392 yes votes to 122 no votes.

Huston Township and Catharine Township passed the referendum by a tally of 318 and 169 yes votes to 54 and 26 no votes respectively.

Taylor Township voters came out in droves to help push the referendum through by a vote of 494 to 135. Woodbury Township became a sanctuary by a margin of 312 to 57.

Newry Borough, with the lowest voter turnout in the area, passed the referendum with 28 yes votes to 5 no votes.
