Borough Votes Spur To Apply For Funding

SPUR owners Mike Biddle and Jordan Greaser attended the Dec. 6 Williamsburg Borough Council meeting to present two grant opportunities for the borough. One grant was from DCNR with regard to the acreage by the Cenveo property for planning. This grant would fund a consultant who would prepare a document on ideas on what to do with property. In past discussions, it was suggested to the borough to hire a consultant.

“We need to pinpoint what we really want to do,” Mayor Ted Hyle explained to borough.

The second grant through the USDA would be a facilities grant for the borough building. The building needs a new heating and cooling system, and it was also brought up previously for the purchase of a generator for the building. Paula Hamilton made the motion to allow SPUR to apply for grants and work with borough. Ed Patterson seconded, and the motion passed.

In his mayor’s report, Hyle discussed purchasing Christmas banners for along the bridge with the leftover lighting monies. The banners would not be in for this year, but Hyle said they would be “ready for next year.”

Bruce Hamilton made the motion with Paula Hamilton seconding. The motion passed.

Bruce Hamilton also made a motion to approve the budget with Ed Patterson seconding. The motion passed. The only changes made to the budget was a 5 percent increase for borough employees and a $13/hour wage for part-time employees. The borough also voted to increase millage from 0.2778 to 0.2943, which would be an increase of $16.50 per $100,000 home. Ed Patterson made the motion to advertise millage ordinance #405 with Paula Hamilton seconding. The motion passed.
