Woodbury Borough Sees Mayor Applicant

On Dec. 6, Woodbury Borough held its last meeting for 2021. All members were in attendance, and Jordan Pabon, resident of Woodbury, was there to observe the meeting.

No mayor report was given due to the vacancy in the mayor position. Jordan Pabon will apply to be Woodbury mayor starting January 2022.

Jeremy Hershberger will replace Ken Ott as the president of Woodbury Township and overseer of Woodbury Area Community Center. This position will start on Jan. 1.

After an ongoing debate over the last couple of years over who owns Kauffman House on Main Street: Woodbury Borough or Altoona First Bank, it was determined by a judge that the house is owned by Altoona First Bank. The bank will be sent notices that the home must be brought up to code or torn down. Violation of some ordinances such as a nuisance order will be sent to the bank. The bank will be responsible for snow removal on sidewalk and lawn care until the house is torn down or brought up to code.

Misty Swope has resigned from the tax collector position and Beverly Ritchey from Bloomfield Township was appointed beginning Jan. 1. She will accept the 7 percent collection fee instead of 10 percent she gets from Bloomfield at this time.

Resolution No. 2021-02 was approved to establish a fee for the issuance of certifications on real estate sales and residential check return fees.

The 2022 budget approval was final at $7,548. Due to projects in 2021, the budget was higher at $9,575.

Upcoming expenditures were given as well as the treasurer report by Secretary Barb Wilt. Total expenditures including state aid expenses were $5,357.34. Total Balance in the general fund and state aid fund including two CDs is $131,731.46.

Meeting dates were set for 2022 and will be advertised. Meetings will be the first Monday of every month, with exceptions being July 8 and Sept. 6.

As of Dec. 4, Woodbury now has five beautiful white snowflake decorations on some of its poles. The council wishes to thank Michael Edmiston Equipment Rental and Leasing of Woodbury for using his equipment and help with hanging the snowflakes. The council also thanked Zimmerman's Bulk Grocery, Hometown Bank, Woodbury Cafe, OIP, Skinny's Garage, Tim Wentz, Shane Suter Insurance, Pat Grosmick, Barb Wilt, Steve Over, Serenity Hair Salon and Wayne Guyer for giving money to the project.
