Home Lost to Fire

The William P. Stayer family of Pittsburgh, formerly of Roaring Spring, lost their home to fire. Two children were trapped on the third floor of the home, but were rescued by an older brother. Several family members were severely burned and were taken to a hospital.

Prof. C. A. Byers, formerly with the Morrisons Cove Vocational High School, underwent an operation for appendicitis at Huntingdon, Ind.

J. Harold Bassler and Miss Beulah Catherine Rutter were married by the bridegroom’s brother, Rev. J. Earl Bassler of the Alexandria Methodist Church. The ceremony was held at the parsonage of the church.

Martin James Shiffler, a Civil War veteran who spent his early life in the Martinsburg area, died at this home in Altoona at the age of 77. He was a member of Company C, 205th Pennsylvania.

Regola, a cow owned by Harry K. Metzger and Sons took the lead in Blair County for the month of November in milk and butterfat production.
