Snow Causes Closure on I-99

While residents of the Cove did not experience a white Christmas, they did experience a post Christmas snow that led to some delays and inconveniences on Monday, Dec. 27. Heavy snow fell over portions of Morrisons Cove during the mid-morning hours on Monday. The snow changed to freezing rain and sleet and ended as rain Monday evening. Total snowfall amounts were less than an inch, but the freezing rain and sleet brought on slippery conditions on roads and sidewalks that were not treated.

A suspected icy bridge led to an accident on I-99 around 6:45 a.m. on the morning of Dec. 28. Initial reports had 8 vehicles, including commercial vehicles, involved in the accident. I-99 northbound was closed from Exit 15 at Claysburg to Exit 23 at East Freedom. As of noon on Dec. 28, the northbound lanes were still closed, leading to major traffic backups and delays along the Woodbury Pike and Dunnings Highway around East Freedom. At press time there were no reports of injuries.
