Strike at Park Averted

Herald of Jan. 30, 1947

The threatened strike by pin boys and skate boys at the Morrisons Cove Memorial Park was averted when pay increases were granted by officers of the Park Association.

The West Virginia Pulp and Paper Company reported a banner year for 1946. The company had its biggest volume of business to date, producing a record of 25.10 tons of paper and paying over $19,000,000 in wages. Workers received a pay raise of 22 cents an hour and overall the company added 1,734 new employees. The company maintained a mill in Williamsburg.

Brice Miller purchased the Hobart Smith garage and adjoining 10 room house in Woodbury. Mr. Miller was planning to use the garage for displaying automobiles for sale. The house was formerly occupied by Mr. Smith’s parents who were considered pioneers of Woodbury. The elder Smith installed the first light plant in the town and supplied electricity until Penn Central took over.
