Village at Morrisons Cove

Shirley M. Acker, 88, a resident of The Village at Morrisons Cove, formerly of Clover Creek, rural Martinsburg, passed away Thursday evening, Feb. 3, 2022, at The Village.

She was born Oct. 30, 1933, in Altoona, daughter of the late David W. and Helen G. (Delozier) Grant. On Aug. 21, 1954, she married Lloyd J. Acker in Altoona. He preceded her in death Sept. 13, 2012, after 58 years of marriage.

She is survived by two sons: Rusty Acker and Randy (Joyce) Acker both of rural Martinsburg; four daughters: Susan Dubbs and Sandy Steele both of rural Martinsburg, Sally Nicholas (John) of Apollo and Shari Figurelli (Greg) of Hollidaysburg; nine grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a grandson, James David Acker; four sisters: Janet Grant, Helen Davis, Nancy Grant and Dorothy Lattieri; and two brothers: infant Howard and David W. Grant.

Shirley was a 1951 graduate of Altoona High School. She was a member of St. Matthew Ev. Lutheran Church, Martinsburg and a former member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Altoona.

She was primarily a homemaker, who also assisted her husband, Lloyd with the daily operation of their dairy farm on Clover Creek, Huston Township.

Shirley loved spending time with her family and also enjoyed solving crossword, word search and jigsaw puzzles.

A private funeral service will be held at John K. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Martinsburg (www.bolgerfuneralhome.com), with Pastor Jeffrey Knepper officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Martinsburg.
