Boyles Addresses Council

Herald of Feb. 16, 2012

Dan Boyles, Blair County’s emergency management director, addressed Roaring Spring Borough Council about his concerns on how the borough would handle certain kinds of disastrous emergencies, for example if Route 36 were closed due to a chemical spill or if a tornado touched down in the area. He offered the support of the emergency management staff to help plan and respond to emergencies.

An education voucher law was being reviewed by the Education Committee of the House of Representatives. The law would allow parents to remove children from schools that were failing or poorly performing and place students in private or cyber schools. Local school directors were wary of the proposal, fearing that it would place a financial burden on local school districts by routing public school funding to private schools.

Seven contestants participated in a “Cupcake Wars” fundraiser at the Williamsburg Public Library. Sheryl Hart won first place.
