Homes Burglarized

Herald of Feb. 20, 1997

Three homes in the Martinsburg area were burglarized on Sunday morning while the victims were attending church. The thieves made off with a variety of items, including jewelry and cash. A gun, videocassette recorder, antique silverware, and a camera were also reported stolen.

The Martinsburg Community Library received a grant to provide free internet service for patrons. Bell Atlantic donated a computer and printer, and dial up internet access was also donated.

Patrons of the library would be able to use the equipment and internet free of charge.

Local farmers were venturing into elk farming. Sunny Acres Farm on Plum Creek Road received eight elk cows and two elk bulls from Vermont. A farm in Hopewell RD belonging to Clair and Bonnie Rhodes also kept elk, theirs coming from a farmer in Huntingdon who purchased them in Canada. Rhodes said elk were “an up and coming farm animal.”
