Bus Crashes on Route 220

Herald of Feb. 17, 1972

A chartered bus side swiped a tractor trailer and crashed on Route 220 near East Freedom, killing a Philadelphia man and injuring 18 others. The bus was taking 35 people, all from Philadelphia, to visit relatives at the Cresson State School and the Ebensburg State School and Hospital. During a rainstorm, the bus swerved to miss a small car stopped in the road and skidded while returning to the correct lane. The bus crashed into the back of the tractor trailer and rolled off the highway, door side down, into a ditch. Eleven ambulances transported the injured to area hospitals. Those who were not injured were sheltered at local homes or taken to the Claysburg Fire Hall until another bus arrived. The person killed was identified as Robert Hagan, 49, of Philadelphia. He and his wife were visiting their son at the Cresson institution.

Ralph C. Over, a former resident of Roaring Spring, was named president of the First National Bank of Everett.
