Claysburg Pair Jailed After Parole Check Turns Up Drugs

A Claysburg pair landed behind bars after a visit from their probation officer led to the discovery of a large quantity of narcotics. According to Bedford State Police, on Feb. 8, a state parole agent arrived at the East Valley Point Lane, Kimmel Township, apartment shared by Cody J. Bush, 26, and Chae L. Burtnett, 26, who are both on state parole.

According to police, when the parole agent entered the apartment, he noticed drug paraphernalia and rifle ammunition, both of which are a parole violation, in view. The agent then asked Bush and Burtnett to submit to a drug test and when asked if they would test positive, they both allegedly said they would test positive for heroin.

Police said Burtnett’s drug test showed positive results for methamphetamine, opiates, amphetamine, benzodiazepine, and THC. When agents searched the residence, they allegedly found a box that contained glassine bags containing a white powder. Police said when a bag was opened, the white powder became aerosolized. Police said Bush told the agents that there were approximately five bricks of glassine bags of fentanyl in the apartment prompting agents to evacuate the area to avoid further exposure.

A search warrant was obtained, and police said a cellphone, packaging materials, digital scales, and approximately 200 glassine bags of suspected fentanyl were found.

Police took Bush and Burtnett into custody and transported them to the Bedford State Police Barracks where Bush refused to speak with them and Burtnett “could not make up her mind” as to whether she wanted to talk to police or not.

Bush and Burtnett were charged with felony possession with intent to deliver, as well as misdemeanor counts of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Both Bush and Burtnett were arraigned by Bedford County District Magistrate Tonya Osman and remanded to the Bedford County Jail on $250,000 bail.
