School Board Hears Audit

David Scott of Young, Oakes, and Brown attended the Williamsburg Community School District’s Board meeting on Feb. 15 to present the audit report. Scott praised Board Secretary Kalie Zabrosky for her job and said that the school district was “doing well.” Superintendent Lisa Murgas said that they would accept the audit next month to give the new board members a chance to read over the audit report.

In her report, Murgas said she was doing a lot of work toward the special education audit happening in April, saying it was “a lot of documentation.” Murgas also said she was working on Title 1 Monitoring.

Elementary Principal Jennifer Metzler recognized that the elementary school was busy with lots of fun activities. The 100th day of school was celebrated on Feb. 2, and students played bingo in the cafeteria to commemorate the occasion. Student council members chose winners in each classroom for Valentine’s Day boxes. After a two-year hiatus, Metzler proudly announced that they would be having Lunch with Parents again, beginning March 8 with the sixth grade parents. Read Across America will be celebrated on March 2 with guest classroom readers. Registration for Kindergarten will be on March 11.

Metzler also said that an eight-teacher committee will be looking at new reading resource materials for the district.

Secondary Principal Mike Jones gave an update that the new high-school cafeteria is “working out really well.” He also explained the process of senior interviews that is currently happening at the high school – where seniors are interviewed by HR representatives from the area to prepare them for interviews upon graduation.

Brandon Barroner was hired as the new junior high softballl coach. Shane Shauver, pending clearances, and Gerald Lower were appointed as volunteer junior high baseball coaches.
