Lawsuit Droped

Herald of March 1, 2012

The Juniata Valley Audubon Society agreed to drop a lawsuit against the Department of Environmental Protection and mine developer Catherine Properties LLC after receiving a formal pledge from the company that it would not disturb a cave site or surrounding areas near a proposed limestone quarry in Catherine Township. The area is a nesting site for the endangered Eastern Small Footed Bat and the Heller Cave Springtail.

Four employees of Claysburg-Kimmel School district took advantage of retirement incentives and submitted their resignations. They were Roberta Pears, Dan Crist, Patricia Tenley and Barry Weyandt.

Roaring Spring was making plans for the 125th Anniversary of the founding of the town. The first event scheduled was a concert entitled “Sing and Celebrate!” Sixty residents from Roaring Spring and the surrounding area were part of the Roaring Spring 125th Anniversary Chorus. The show was planned for the Spring Cove Middle School stage in mid-March.
