Meeting Held About School

The Hollidaysburg Standard reported that the Blair County Commissioners and Directors of the Poor held a joint meeting at the almshouse in regard to establishing an industrial school for the care, preparation, and education of homeless and friendless children who come under the care of the Children’s Aid Society.

The editor likened the Inauguration ceremonies in Washington to the coronation of a Russian Czar because of the amount of pomp and imposing displays. The Pennsylvania Legislature recessed so members of both parties could attend. The PRR provided a special train for their travel.

Mr. Abram Kensinger, whose home was in Morrisons Cove, fell while jumping from the north bound passenger car on the Shoop Run Branch in Powelltown. One of his legs was caught by the wheels of the rear freight car, and might need to be amputated.
