Altercation with Police Lands Roaring Spring Man Behind Bars

A Roaring Spring man is behind bars after a call to investigate a disturbance led to a fight with police.

According to charges filed by Freedom Township police, on March 1, officers were called to a home along Redmen Court, Freedom Township, for a report of a man “yelling and causing a disturbance.”

When police arrived, they found George E. Caple, 23, on the front porch steps and that he was “heavily” under the influence of alcohol and a controlled substance. According to police, Caple began yelling at officers, calling them “pigs.” Police said when they tried to take Caple into custody, he began to resist. An officer was able to get one cuff on Caple when he started to fight with officers.

Police said Caple and two officers fell to the ground during the altercation. During the struggle, one of the officers received a cut to his right hand. Police said they were able to get the other cuff on Caple and placed him in the back of the police car.

After Caple was secured, officers interviewed witnesses who told them that Caple had been to a party at the residence when he became unruly due to being intoxicated. Witnesses told police that Caple was asked to leave and was “escorted” to the door and told not to come back.

Police said that once Caple was outside, he attempted to get back into the house by damaging the screen door frame and a window. Police said Caple continued to be unruly while they transported him to the police station.

Caple is facing a felony count of criminal attempt at burglary along with misdemeanor charges of simple assault, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct.

Caple was arraigned by Martinsburg Magisterial District Judge Andrew Blattenberger and committed to the Blair County Prison on $60,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for today, March 10, in front of Blattenberger.
