Hollidaysburg Area Community Partnership Discusses Summer Activities

The highlight of the March monthly meeting of the Hollidaysburg Area Community Partnership (HACP) was the report of upcoming major events in which the HACP would be involved.

A discussion held by the Marketing and Program Committee led to the idea of the HACP foregoing participation in Springfest and sponsoring Third in the Burg instead. Third in the Burg happens every third Friday in May through September. Third in the Burg encourages businesses to extend their hours and invites customers to come shop. Board member Don Delozier made a motion for HACP to sponsor the first Third in the Burg for $500. The motion to provide the sponsorship was approved unanimously. The partnership will revisit the sponsorship amount at the April meeting for future Third in the Burg events.

Businesses have been contacted to participate in the window Easter egg hunt. The egg hunt will start April 1 and run through Easter, April 17. Two winners will be chosen from completed forms turned into the designated businesses. The information will be given to Copy Rite to print. The members present offered to help distribute the eggs to the businesses participating.

The HACP is working with the Hollidaysburg Area Public Library for the Story Walk. The Walk is scheduled to start May 27. Summer activities were discussed and Family Fun Day will be Aug. 13 at the Canal Basin Park, with entertainment for the entire family including a film. Kerrie Kinzle is chairing the event and the HACP is willing to monetarily support the event once again. Kinzle will be invited to the next Partnership board meeting to discuss their active role in the event.

The Membership Committee stated applications to the HACP are being submitted online and downloaded to a spreadsheet. To join the HACP members must be located within the Hollidaysburg School District. Potential members are being referred to the website to join. The partnership website is getting a lot of traffic. Members are also visiting the website by Facebook. The page will post events hosted by HACP members. Members will be contacted for the process to submit event information.

Michael Eardley has resigned from the partnership board. Eardley’s resignation left two vacancies on the board. Boardmember Pam Jones, made a motion to accept Mandy Bowman’s application for one of the two vacant board positions. The motion carried unanimously. Delozier made a motion to appoint Toni Kroko to the board to fill Michael Eardley’s vacant spot. All members approved. The new members will be part of the April board meeting. The next HACP board meeting is Friday, April 8, at 9 a.m. at the Hollidaysburg Area Public Library.
