Giant Eagle Relocating

Herald of April 10, 1997

The Giant Eagle in Roaring Spring was relocating to the former Food Lion shopping center. The new Giant Eagle would be considerably larger than the old store, since it was moving into the Food Lion location as well as the adjacent Thrift Drug Store. Giant Eagle had been renovating the new space for about eight months, and planned to open on April 24. Food Lion closed on July 27, 1996 after being open for only a year.

Seven juveniles, six of them local, were charged by Martinsburg police for a number of incidents that happened during 1996. Charges included criminal conspiracy, theft by unlawful taking or disposition, receiving stolen property, burglary and criminal trespass.

An Imler fireman was arrested and charged in connection with a fire that destroyed a building owned by the Imler Volunteer Fire Company. He was expected to be charged in connection to another fire at the company’s engine house.
