First Day of Trout Reports

Herald of April 17, 1947

Reports from the first day of trout season were mixed. While there seemed to be many fishermen, there were not many reports of big catches. Recent rains and muddy water were to blame.

The Herald office reported that some farmers were buying no trespassing signs to prohibit fishing by the “city-folk” who were going to impose Daylight Savings Time in rural areas. Others were prohibiting fishing on their land because of inconsiderate fishermen blocking access to their properties.

Plans for improvements to the Morrisons Cove Memorial Park were announced. The improvements include a new grandstand at the athletic field, two new bowling alleys, an indoor shuffleboard, and a restaurant.

A record setting number of births were recorded at Nason hospital during the month of March, 1947. Twenty-one boys and eighteen girls were born at the hospital for a total of 39. The previous record was 36 babies born in September, 1946.
