Teachers Receive Grants

Two Central High School teachers received Fulbright grants to study overseas. Barbara Clark, a business instructor, was headed to Russia and Marlys Hershberger, a Spanish instructor, was traveling to Costa Rica for four weeks.

The Williamsburg Municipal Authority opened bids for the planned $4 million dollar upgrade to the water system and found that the low bid was a quarter of a million dollars less than the engineers’ estimate.

The Martinsburg Volunteer Fire Company received a new tanker truck that could haul 2,750 gallons of water, 750 gallons more than the old 1975 tanker it replaced. The company was raising funds to pay for the tanker.

Bert’s Beauty Shoppe closed its doors in Martinsburg after 64 years in business. Owner Bert Shaw said she wanted to spend her winters in Florida and was ready to give up the responsibilities of owning a business.

Bare Memorial Church of God celebrated 125 years as a congregation.
