Central Champions of 2022 Curve Classic

The Central Dragon Baseball team faced the Westmont Hilltop Hilltoppers and the Greater Johnstown Trojans and overwhelmingly defeated both, 16-1, and 27-3.

Central won the Curve Classic this past weekend, defeating Bishop Guilfoyle, 18-2; Northern Bedford, 13-1; and Tyrone, 12-6.

Against the Hilltoppers, the Dragons took an early lead by bringing in three runs in the first inning, followed by two in the second. After six runs in the third and five more in the fourth, the game was an astounding victory for the Dragons. Hunter Smith had a homerun as well as five RBIs. Jeff Hoenstine was 3-3 at bat with three RBIs and four runs scored, while Devon Boyles was 3-3 with two RBIs. Paxton Kling, Jonah Snowberger and Tyler Helsel all added two hits. Helsel, Parker Gregg, and Griffin Snowberger all had two RBIs as well.  Jake Detwiler was the winning pitcher, striking out five.

Against Johnstown, the Dragons had another strong start to the game, scoring four in the first inning, and nine in the second. After one more run in the third, as well as four more in the fourth, the game was another easy victory for the Dragons. Kling went 4-4 at the plate with two home runs and seven RBIs. Hoenstine added two hits and three RBIs. Devon Boyles had a home run with three RBIs. Smith had a double and a home run, while Gregg had two hits, including a double and three RBIs to lead the offensive attack. Luke Bettwy picked up the win on the mound for the Dragons.

The undefeated Dragons will now face the Bishop Carroll Huskies, the Penn Cambria Panthers, and the Bedford Bisons throughout the week.
