Father’s Day is right around the corner, and I have been surrounded by wonderful men in my life. My dad, Rick, and my two grandfathers, Pete and Gene, have truly blessed my life. This inspired my question for the week – what is one of your favorite memories with your Dad and grandfather?

Here is what a few had to say:

Scott Bush: Sam Saylor was my Pap, I have so many great memories of him – I couldn’t just pick one. He was like a father to me when I was growing up. The last time I spoke to him was when I left for the Marine Corps. in 1986. He passed away from cancer a month late. I sure miss him.

Tammy Kensinger Detwiler: When I was younger, my favorite memory would have to be spending time with my sisters and him at the farm. As for today, I would have to say my favorite memories are seeing him with my boys and grandsons. The love he has for them as well as what they have for my Dad is like no other.

Diana Barroner: My dad was silly, funny, and could always imitate people’s voices. He could be stern also like a Dad should. I was his side kick but I always told him the truth whether he liked it or not and vice versa.

Morgan Reighard: When I was little, I was riding in a truck with my pap. All of a sudden, he said you drive and let go of the steering wheel. I drove the truck right through the yard.

Susan Smith: I delivered Meals on Wheels and my Dad used to go along wth me and mark down the time each person’s meal was delivered to them. When I worked at JC Blair Hospital 3-11 shift, he always asked me to either stop by or call him when I got home each night. I miss him so much.

Brandi Schwaderer: Seeing him waiting for us after school to pick us up – loved when he surprised us.

Carolyn Brumbaugh: My dad’s fiddle playing, and his leading of the Clover Creek String Band. He was famous for his performances with playing the “Orange Blossom Special.”

Jan Teeters: My father’s father had hearing aids and my little brother would sit on his lap and turn them up until they squealed. My last memory of Pap was in Nason Hospital, my 4 month son repeatedly holding Pap’s watch to his little ear to hear it tick.

Walt Frank: Playing golf with my dad.

Matthew Morgan: When I was jumping on my old trampoline and I went to jump off because I was bad, and I twisted my ankle, and when my Dad went to take me to the car he fell while holding me.

Barb Dulaney: Sitting on his lap on his chair by the window watching birds.

Drew Appleman, Jr.: Hunting with Beagle for rabbits and fishing together.

Anna Gibboney: One of my favorite memories of both my Dad and Grandpap on the day I had Kristopher. I was a high-risk pregnancy and the day I had Kris my blood pressure reached 210/160 and the doctors feared a stroke. I ended up with an emergency C-section. That evening in my hospital room I was holding Kris for the first time that I can recall, my Dad was sitting on the edge of the bed talking to me and smiling at his first grandchild. When I looked over at my Grandpap sitting in the corner of the room with his head down and resting on his cane, I asked him if he was okay. He raised his head and I could see his tears, he replied, “God answered my prayers – both you and the boy are going to be just fine.”
