Cleanup Continues

Cleanup continued in the aftermath of flooding from Agnes. Utility services were restored and residents who were not flooded out were able to return to their homes. There was significant damage to crops, and Blair County Civil Defense estimated damages to Williamsburg businesses at $475,000. Blair and Bedford Counties were declared disaster areas.

Ronald E. Kensinger of Martinsburg RD was the Cove area’s first $50,000 winner in the state lottery. Mr. Kensinger had no immediate plans for the money.

Lottie Smith of Martinsburg RD was named Blair County Dairy Princess. She was the daughter of Mr and Mrs. Donald Smith and was a graduate of Central High School. She planned to study nursing in Lancaster.

Linda Hall, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Hall of Hopewell, was crowned Bedford County’s Dairy Princess in a pageant held at Northern Bedford High School. Elaine Frederick was selected Miss Congeniality.
