Sweet Corn Comes in Early

Herald of July 10, 2012

Local sweet corn crops were early this year due to the “weird” weather. The spring was cool and rainy, and June saw a heat wave. The last frost was also unusually early, giving farmers a chance to plant earlier.

A tour of local churches was planned for Roaring Spring as part of the town’s Anniversary Celebration. A number of churches were planning events to showcase their history and architecture.

A bluegrass festival was being held as a fundraiser for the Southern Cove Fire Company. The two day event was taking place on the Southern Cove Power Reunion Grounds.
