The Cove Pallets sawmill in Huston Township was destroyed by fire, causing an estimated $420,000 in damage. Employees were present when the fire started but were unable to extinguish the flames.

Two Roaring Spring girls earned second and third places out of approximately 3,200 entries in a national art contest sponsored by the Holocaust Memorial in Washington D.C. Tara Conlon won second place for her parchment piece and Leslie Corle won third place for her pencil drawing.
