Borough Contacts Dollar General Store for Reimbursement

The Williamsburg Borough, Catharine and Woodbury townships, the Williamsburg School District and Blair County have been tossing around the idea of the LERTA program. LERTA, the Local Economic Revitalization Tax Assistance, is a tax abatement program created in PA authorizing local municipalities and townships to give a tax break for five years to new construction. This program seeks to draw residents and businesses to the area. The borough is putting on a meeting on Monday, July 18, at 7 p.m. at the Farm Show Building to answer any questions about the LERTA program, and the public is invited to attend.

The borough brought up the Dollar General Store in Williamsburg, who the borough plowed sidewalks for over the winter season and has yet to be reimbursed for that labor. The borough will be sending a 30-day notice to the Dollar General before taking further action.

The Community Yard Sale was announced for the first Saturday in August, Aug. 6. Borough Manager Joe Lansberry said he is currently looking for new skid loader tires and is garnering estimates that will be presented at the next meeting.

Resident Tom Peck asked the council about zoning in the borough as he wishes to put a shed on his property. Because the zoning ordinance wasn’t on the agenda, the zoning ordinance update is scheduled for the next meeting.
